Gulf Winds International, Inc. was founded in April 1996. The idea was to develop a full service, third party logistics company that would focus on warehousing, land transportation, distribution and consolidation.

 In 1997, the Houston Trucking division opens with 5 trucks and by 1998 Gulf Winds opened its 2nd warehouse facility. By 2012 Gulf Winds opened its 7th warehouse. Today Gulf Winds is operating with over 2.3 million square feet of warehouse space. By any measurement standard, Gulf Winds is a remarkable success story. In just a few years, the company has grown from only four employees with one account to over 500 employees including ILA and contract labor and thousands of accounts with several locations in Houston and Dallas.

Purpose of Position

 The Terminal Manager - is responsible for the oversight and management of the dispatch operations group in the Memphis  Terminal. The position will be responsible for managing applicable personnel within the department, as well as overseeing daily capacity planning, equipment utilization, relative to the transportation group, driver retention within the dispatch group, ELD compliance relative to Houston trucking operations, operational cost, as well as creating processes and efficiencies within the same group.

 Primary Job Responsibilities: includes the following. Other duties may be assigned as deemed appropriate by Management.

  •  Oversee management of the Dispatch Operations staff in Memphis via the Assistant Operations manager, as well as supporting clerical staff.
  • Create and manage efficiency driving metrics, to include chassis utilization, specific desk, lane, truck and regional margins, HOS efficiencies, and company service related metrics.
  • Oversee daily, weekly, and monthly operational cost, relative to storage, per diem, leased chassis cost, etc.
  • Oversee driver retention goals within and relative to the transportation operations group in Memphis.
  • Oversee work load scheduling for the Memphis terminal    

Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must possess strong communication & writing skills necessary to interface with internal and external customers, as well as different departments, and varying levels of management, on a daily basis.
  • Must be a self starter and willing to work with minimal supervision, and execute tasks and duties at a high level.
  • General knowledge of transportation industry, logistics and supply chain.
  • The candidate must have excellent organizational skills.
  • Familiar with the “owner-operator” model, within the transportation industry.
  • Ability to hire, train, and develop employees to grow within the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an understanding and an emphasis on communication, training, interdepartmental interaction, supervision and management
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Strong understanding of company margins and driver pay structure. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • 5 Years of transportation experience
  • 4 years of management experience
  • Must be computer literate with MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Must be dependable and able to work independently
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
